Overview
The beautiful Atlantic Coast of the Kintyre peninsula is an unexplored haven, free from some of the crowding you get in other places in Scotland.
The Kintyre peninsula is also home to the Kintyre Way, which will treat you to secluded beaches, small fishing communities, and rolling, often unchallenging hills.
The route was officially launched in 2006 and is over 100 miles in length.
There is an abundance of flora and fauna to enjoy, and of course wildlife, from sea birds to seals.
The route is fully waymarked, with some options to add challenge depending on the variety of hiking you prefer.
When walking you can expect to be walking along forest trail, foreshore, and beach sections, and some hill walks.
Unlike some other areas of Scotland or long distance trails, Kintyre is mostly unspoiled and much quieter.
Wild camping is legal, and can be done freely so long as you leave no trace. You will find loads of great areas to pitch along the route.
The weather can be harsh on the southern stretch of the route, and walking on the Moor’s can be tricky at times.
However, you will find enough places to re-supply every few days.
There will be some sections where you will spend parts of the day walking on roads.
Accommodation options are available but prices can be steep.
